I mean...not SO rare, but whatever.
I recently found out what this number means.
That’ s right, limited edition baby. Anyway, thanks to some intrepid folks on the forum I finally know what this actually means in context
So here it is.
· Toyota Sold a total of 14,981 of the 1997 model year Land Cruisers.
· For model year 1997, 44% of the Land Cruisers were special editions. This includes both 40th and Collector Edition.
· The special edition sales were 26% 40th Anniversary and 17% Collector Edition.
· Of the 3,946 - 40th Anniversary models, 1,604 were equipped with factory diff locks for a total of 41% install rate.
· Of the 2,616 Collector Edition models, 822 were equipped with factory diff locks for a total of 31% diff lock install rate.
So out of the Limited edition series I now know that mine is #3229 of 3,946
I also know that since mine has the factory locker option its only 1 of 1,604 in the anniversary edition so equipped.
I also know that only 3,064 were made in my color.
So special.

I’m surprised you are not on a mustang forum bragging about this.

But how many
in your color
were also locking-diff-equipped!?

I love the stats that come out of
forums.. So useful - and al
so useless at the same time.

My Galaxie appears to be a ‘63 production line mule for ‘64 model seats, so is probably one of dozens at most. My Ranchero was made in a year with plummeting sales numbers (maybe 3000?) and was sold without a paint code because it was painted in a special green paint (believed for Forest Service use, special order) so was likely one of a hundred at most.
Strangely it’s the Fords, not the Benz or Lincoln or Rover that hit the wacky-meter.
Oh, and the Ranchero came with a 4.10 factory rear end. Is that not hilarious?

exactly. Pointless, but hey...there it is.

I’m just bitter because Toyota sold
198,
124
Tacomas in 2017 - 190,000 were silver..

And how many were LHD or RHD?
![]() 11/14/2018 at 16:44 |

All LHD, since these are just the US market numbers (they didn’t do the 40th anniversary anywhere else as far as I know.

LIMITED* edition!
*to the number we can sell
![]() 11/14/2018 at 17:17 |

huh, even 98 models too. That I don’t know then, but I can tell you that your 40ths don’t look like ours. We only got 2 colors (emerald and “antique sage” * eye roll*) and we didn’t get those wheels. Those are the Lexus ones we got. interdasting.

whats interesting is that they actually only made so many...then they realized they could sell more but didn’t have any so they made the “ collectors edition” instead .

They came in a couple of different trim levels (GX and GXL) which explains the colour options. Wheels could be from anything by now but the 40ths were alloy in both trims even though GX typically came with steel.
TBH the 40ths were largely low cost/no cost optional trim packs with special graphics...from memory. No mechanical upgrades or differentiation from routine Cruisers.
Same same sort of for the 50th and 60th Anniversary Brand Editions in 2001 and 2010 but they were GXL based only https://toyota.pressroom.com.au/press_release_detail.asp?clientID=2&prID=388&navSectionID=2 and https://www.google.com.au/amp/s/www.goauto.com.au/amp/toyota/landcruiser-200/toyota-releases-60th-anniversary-cruiser/2010-09-17/18562.html
